Selecting Dock Leveler Capacity
Loading Dock Capacity
There are three forms of leveler capacity that are used for dock levelers; static capacity, roll-over capacity and dynamic capacity.
Static Capacity
There are three forms of leveler capacity that are used for dock levelers; static capacity, roll-over capacity and dynamic capacity.
Roll-Over Capacity
Roll-over capacity is the gross amount of weight that can be roll-over a dock leveler, the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), which is the maximum weight of the fork truck plus the maximum lifting capacity.
Dynamic Capacity
Dynamic capacity is the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), speed and grade of entry to and from the truck. Roll-over and dynamic are similar, but dynamic is more real world application based.
A simple guideline to capacity is to take the GVW and multiply that by 2, for light to normal use (i.e. 8,000 lb. forklift gross weight plus 4,000 lb. gross weight equals the GVW of 12,000 lbs. multiplied by 2 equals 24,000 lbs.). If lift attachments are used on the fork truck it must be included in the weight of the fork truck and a higher multiplier must be used, the same is true if using a three-wheel fork truck, greater grade of incline/decline of the dock leveler or turning on a dock leveler. Our representatives can assist you with selecting the right capacity for your clients use.
